BRICK WALLS

"Brick wall" is a term that we usually apply to the oldest known individual in a particular line. They are the point at which there is no further information forthcoming. These individuals present the greatest challenge to us in our research. They came from somewhere and had parents but the public record seems to be devoid of these details. Indeed, at times it seems that the person did not wish to be documented and deliberately avoided the Census takers and tax collectors. The problem, however, is that courthouses burn, records disappear, and Census takers just simply don't get everyone counted. The frustrating truth about brick walls is that if you finally break through one, there is always another behind it. This is one of the aspects of Genealogy that keeps us interested as we continue to dig ever deeper into our family history.

Below is a list of some of my and my fellow Lowrey researchers' brick walls. Any information that might help to bring down any of these walls would be greatly appreciated. Please contact us if you have any such information, no matter how small.
