CONTRIBUTING INFORMATION

This web site is intended to be a joint effort with others who are researching these lines. The entire concept depends on contributions from you. It is my desire to preserve the integrity of your information as truly as possible. Please see the information below for contributing your Georgia Lowrey Families information.

WE NEED YOUR INPUT

Whether you can connect to one of the lines included on this site or have a line of Georgia Lowreys (or Lowrys or Lowerys) that does not link to any of the groups on this site (or has not been proven to link to one of them), your Lowrey data is welcome and needed. If you wish to contribute your Georgia Lowrey data, please send me the information in the form of a Gedcom file attached to an e-mail. Send it to jdlowrey@lowreys.net  and put the word GEDCOM in the subject. I will only post the portion of your file that is relevant to the Georgia Lowreys. If you prefer, you can send me an entire Gedcom file and indicate which is the "progenitor". I will export the relevant portion of your file. Please include notes and sources when you create your Gedcom file. Note: If you are using Family Tree Maker to export a certain portion of your file to a Gedcom, make sure the format is set to include enough generations of descendants.

WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR FILE?

Because our format here requires the ability to merge files together, I use Family Tree Maker to create the Gedcom files that are uploaded. I will take your file and open it in Family Tree Maker. I will then export the relevant portion of the file to a Gedcom file which I will name as your name and the date it is created (Example: johndoe120199.ged). This file will then be merged with an already existing file named with the name of the progenitor of the group (Example: johnlowery113099.ged). I will then use the privatize feature within Family Tree Maker to remove information about living individuals in the resulting file. The new "cleaned" file will be converted to HTML format using a program called Gedpage. This will create the pages for upload to the Web. They will be uploaded to the server using FTP. Your pages will reference the file name, which was named with your name. I will confirm receipt of your file(s) by e-mail and will furnish the URL to you when the files are uploaded to the Web site. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. 

CONTRIBUTING OTHER INFORMATION

If you have other information relating to the Georgia Lowrey Families, it can be submitted as e-mail attachments to  jdlowrey@lowreys.net or can be sent by regular mail, if necessary. Please contact me by e-mail to arrange this. Any type of information that is relevant to the research of the Georgia Lowreys is welcome and will be included on this site unless the quality of the item prevents it from being useful (Example: a document that has been scanned and is not "reasonably" decipherable when viewed on a Web page). Useful types of information include (but are, of course, not limited to) wills, obituaries, Census records, deeds, land abstracts, marriage records, birth certificates, photographs, family remembrances and stories, letters, etc. The types of files that can be attached to an e-mail would be: text, rich text, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Gedcom, JPEG image files, GIF image files, Bitmap image files, TIFF image files. 

I look forward to building this site into a place that is representative of what we know about the Georgia Lowrey Families. The goal, of course, is to eventually have larger groups and fewer of them. Please take the time to contribute your information. Thank you.
